It feels good when you find your code in your competitors help documents. Like you'd think they'd try to hide it better then that. It's nice to know who they take inspiration from.

Spot on!

Arc Zaps are so empowering. Like, I have the knowledge to create a quick chrome extension to remove things from a page, but the ability to just click an element and remove it means I actually DO it. Hate the twitter "discover more" section? zap that shit

Boosts 2.0 has been a lot of fun to work on, and it’s been neat to see what we could make possible. The color wheel and advanced sliders give you just enough control while still making it easy to create cool things. Hope you enjoy playing with it!

The lightness values are not directly specified by the color wheel since it just represents a cross-section of the HSL color space. Instead, we vary the output lightness slightly so that absolute whites and absolutes blacks in the page can take on some color.

The color wheel also lets you choose a saturation value (how far the dots are from the center). The output saturation is a mix of this value and the page color’s saturation value.

All colors on the page are mapped to this range of hues. The lighter the page color, the closer its output hue will be to the primary point. The darker the page color, the closer its output hue will be the secondary point.

Of course there can still be some fun / unintended effects. Emojis for example also get color transformed as they are just text. We decided not to try to fix this. Is it a bug or a feature?

Instead we implemented this as a feature of the rendering engine, which made it much simpler and more performant. An optional color filter is applied to the painting of a subset of elements.

A really fun feature of Boosts 2.0 (launched today in Arc) is how easy it makes it to change the color palette of web sites. And color for me makes a big difference in how the web feels. Here’s a peek under the hood at how it all works!

Sad to hear it :-( It means a lot to me to have been part of this journey w/ the gang at Neeva. Wish you all the best on what comes next!

We are shutting down @neeva's consumer search engine. This was a very tough decision that took into account lots of things: our business progress so far, the current funding environment and our ability to continue to grow quickly in this vastly changed search environment. We… Show more

We’re hiring a Technical Advisor to support our CTO (@hursh) & Head of Engineering (@dolapo) on special projects related to engineering @browsercompany. Requires “nothing is beneath you if it helps the team” attitude, technical exp., and founder mentality. DM @hursh to apply!

A case study in what it looks like when a team focuses on quality over quantity.

Yeah, I used to marvel at the how composable that web was... it's the double-edged sword of so much of the security & privacy work that has gone into the platform. 3rd party cookies and iframes also enable some amazing stuff--unfortunately also a lot of bad stuff :-(

🌶 Take: I think cache partitioning (developer.chrome.com/en/blog/http-c) was a big misstep for the web. I understand the privacy arguments, and it seems like they can be mitigated. But I also think that enabling developers is more important. In the old days, developers could build large…

And while we usually end updates here there’s more to do! We thought we’d share how we sketch out SwiftUI views at Browser Co (live session, mess ups & all) and share the code. Would love to see how y’all would implement it <3 gist.github.com/jasdev/9e35b9f
