Oh now I’m curious about this. Is there any noticeable difference with load times using an external hard drive?
Not that I've noticed, but you can try and keep the game your currently playing on the system HD. Also I got my PS4 on release so they could've changed the hardware is later models.

Yeah I got my PS4 on release too! I've always wondered whether the USB hard drives meant it would load slower. Apparently the load times are actually better? Weird!

Well if you got a faster external HD (the internal is only 5400 RPM) and the system loads directly from the external HD than that would explain it. (I have no idea what's happening, I'm just guessing.)
