I've also found that people scope on their own experience level/knowledge of the system, not counting that they might not be the one doing the task.

That's what brought me around to planning poker (I hated it at first), it gives everyone a chance to give input on a task and also shows what members of the team might need a bit more assistance than others in certain areas.

It’s also good for confidence (assuming you’re on a good team), a reason why I didn’t doing it was I was insecure about my own abilities, but it forced me to contribute and I got over it pretty quickly
