Hey, git is amazing until it fucks up. Then it's the worst.

The greatest con to the games industry was teaching students that Git was the right choice for game dev version control. Web sure, git’s fine. Games, it’s the wrong tool.

GitLFS is what i've used in a bunch of instances, but what's your preferred tool? Mecurial? Perforce? *shudder* TortoiseSVN?

My experience is different from windows users. I use macOS and cornerstone for linking to svn we host on Amazon. SVN is an excellent source control tool. TortoiseSVN being integrated into explorer is a terrible idea.

Yeah, I can’t put my finger on it. I like Dropbox integration into explorer/finder but somehow source control integration smells funky.

Yeah Perforce or SVN for games is a good choice. Some projects would just physically *not* work with git.

I started using SVN a few weeks ago for one of our projects and I absolutely hate it. I understand why it is a better solution for assets, but as a programmer I really miss git.

Im a programmer, and honestly git is terrible in my eyes. If you want to isolate a feature, use a change list. It is 100 times more effective than a million random branches. On a bigger team i guess use perforce or its closed source cousins, but git can get fucked haha

My big issue with git is you have to 'think' about version control; it takes longer than 5 mins to teach it to someone. That's not a great thing, using version control shouldn't be that complex.

Yeah the workflow of just 'WIP' commits all the way through is nice. If you want you can still have a git repo locally so you can do that with your code and then just submit with Perforce / SVN / other

I was very tempted to embed a git repo inside SVN but eventually decided not to. It's always good to learn to use things you’re not familiar with. Also, once this project in done I’m back in git 😄
