Game dev friends, I need some advice about computer hardware. All my computers have developed some frustrating hardware issues so I need to construct or buy a new one. What do you use to make games? What's in it?

As much ram as I possibly & a SSD as large as affordable. As for the rest I would say it depends on what kind of games your wanting to make. Minimum 1080 if VR, but could go a 1060 for most other intensive 3D + any CPU that can do gfx for when apps don't utilise the GPU

I've got a rtx 2070 but the rest of my parts are like 10yrs old. I'm mostly interested in what CPUs are worthwhile and why as there seems to be some pretty significant differences . Like do I bother with something like ryzen 7 for rendering or should I pick a more common CPU?

Better CPU's a definitely worth it for code compilation/creating builds. On one project there was an hour difference between my i7 building compared to a co-workers i5.

Yeah between renders and code compile I'm probably going to need at least that. Out of interest which i7 do you have? There's a lot more than there used to be

My desktop and work pc have a 6700K and laptop has a 6700. But all my PC's are somewhere between 2.5 - 3.5 years old.
