I've been doing some thinking... Many girls stop playing sport as they transition out of schooling. This can be due to a number of social, cultural and other associated reasons. What do you think we can do to encourage them to pursue sports as either a career or hobby?

Actually making it enjoyable in co-ed spaces? Sports class was a nightmare because instead of helping me get better, my lack of skills in some sports were cause for ridicule not guidance. By both teachers and boys.

Yes please. At my school some, usually the non compeition sports got segregated by gender. For example boys did soccer or basketball, girls did dance or pilates. There's numerous levels of fucked up-ness there.

Netball was an option for girls if I recall, but the most common was dance and pilates

My school had a pretty even split for sports, everyone has access to the same options (but I went to a pretty sports focused school). I ended up doing soccer, footy, swimming and surfing.

This sounds amazing, but also not the norm.

It was probably like that because it was a country public school that didn't have much money or resources. Anything that needed more than an oval, court or the beach wasn't an option.

Also small town, there was no other out of school activities for kids other than sport.
