AUSTRALIANS: When someone asks you how many states are in Australia, what do you answer with?

I totally wigged myself out because when my friend asked I said 7 (counting the territories) and then realised I've always thought there were 5 states and 2 territories and fuck my education I guess

There's actually more than 2 territories (I think it's 10), they're just so small that they don't get counted.
