@DrLucyRogers got a random science q for you... When I run the hot tap, it starts cold. As the water gets hotter, the sound of it coming out changes; gets lower in pitch. It's so pronounced you can tell when it's hot by ear.
Why?

I only thought to ask coz she described herself as having a doctorate in bubbles! (And this is a fluids question. And acoustics, I suppose...probably some thermal dynamics? It *is* the hot tap after all!)

I would guess it's something to do with the % dissolved air. Moving hot water around sounds very different to transferring cold water.

Is it related to the way the note of a kettle changes as it reaches boiling?
