Concurrent programming is still hard. We have a long way to go with concurrent and distributed systems.

Adoption is different from education and abstraction. Erlang has limited fit for general purpose programming. Great for some things.

I tried to build some types of systems in Erlang where it felt unnatural, e.g. Risk systems. Could have been my lack of skills.

Erlang probably wouldn't be my first choice for risk systems without DSLs - arguably non trivial in any plain PL though...
