Irish people who move to Britain are often surprised by how little some people here know about Britain's colonial past in Ireland. Serious question, from someone who didn't come through the British school system, how, if it all, does Ireland feature?

The Empire and colonialism, when it is mentioned in British schooling at all, is like looking through something through the wrong end of a telescope - all very indistinct and so very far away.

Yep, I've seen this through a similar lens with my mostly UK educated kids... OTOH, it's history, so let's move on... But, there's a lizard brain component here too... And whenever I default to that I point out my bias... I don't always catch it, mostly I do...
