Irrational confidence is rational if you are making a small investment (not much to lose) for a large potential payout. When you say, “This is definitely going to work,” it doesn’t matter that you are statistically wrong. Expected value is still massively positive.

I explained my irrational fear of dentists to my doctor once. I was corrected and informed my fear was rational. I got a prescription to get put under. I didn't cry like 5yo for first time since being a 5yo.. so, rational confidence this must be!
