“YAML is super picky and annoying!” snivels an entire generation who never had to touch a BIND zone file.

It's taken a while, as he decided to make it compatible with 64-bit systems before releasing it, but, as I hinted at Code Mesh, David Turner has now released the Miranda programming language under a BSD licence:

A project that according to github is a dependency on more than 4.2 million repositories and approx 30.000 packages makes 7$/month on Patreon, 50$/month on Open Collective and is looking for a job. We should talk about a sustainable business model for open source in the small

Please see this thread for a critical view on the latest fad in “conflict free offline sync” and that, again, shows it can’t really be done without either losing data, or overpromising devs on the solution. In distributed systems, conflicts are a fact of life.

Back to working on my new B+-tree, and this is where benchmarking gets interesting. I switched my lookup code from a binary key search to a linear search, and now suddenly it's gone from slightly slower than std::collections to significantly faster.

the upcoming io_uring changes for linux 5.6 are awesome! TCP send + recv support added, among lots of other nice updates 5.6 is when io_uring is going to really spread its wings for network programming. Quite eager to gather some measurements

I merged something into today () a fix for issues the new cargo-fuzz found and it made me sad. It’s sensible from a security perspective (I think) but it’s 10% slower than before. Cache misses are through the roof :(

This is *very* good. "It’s not about being nice to each other or reducing performance standards, but rather about creating a culture of openness where teammates can share learnings, be direct, take risks...and be willing to ask for help when you’re in over your head."
