Healthcare professionals demanded we drastically reduce the jail population, so we listened. On Jan 21, the SF jail population was 1,238. On March 4, when the emergency was declared, it was 1,097. Yesterday, it was 766. Meanwhile, crime rates continue to decrease in SF.

SF advocates have to get together though. Releasing people without homes or family to this? We must do better. Of course, need state and fed help too.pic.twitter.com/ZDzzJxXtm4

The jail where I work, in SF, has been ensuring everyone had someplace to go and if homeless referring to Transitional Housing and hotel vouchers. The photo is what is planned for those who were already unhoused.

Yes, it's necessary to provide space for people that are unhoused. What is the purpose of the site? To surveil? To detain? I don't think those amenities will draw people there... Hotels are empty! We need to use all available space.

I agree with you. I also believe there will be some folks who will show up, particularly people with children. Supervisor @MattHaneySF: continues to push for the use of all the empty hotel rooms.
