    Cryptonetworks may play out similarly. In short/med term, value & usage may accrue to applications (again, this is outside of monetary use as that is its own beast) but long-term consolidation may drive value downward to the native assets of the dominating general purpose chains.

    However, over time there is consolidation & the pendulum swings from application-specific to general purpose. The iPhone eventually combined our phones w/ computers, cameras (remember Kodak?), GPS navigation (remember Garmin?), gaming consoles & so much more on a single OS.

    This is akin to application-specific software. Different programming languages & applications are used for business + accounting transactions, communication + social media networks, air traffic radar systems, shipping + freight logistics, healthcare & so much more.

    Hypothesis: as cryptonetworks continue to evolve in this new decade, outside of monetary use cases we will see a plethora of application-specific chains & power laws apply to the (d)apps of those chains. Users will plug in to good products, and tokens may/may not be involved.
