.@UniOfYork this person employed by you bullies me relentlessly, mocks my gender identity and sexuality, all because I’m trans. I’m a 1st year and this type of behaviour obviously impacts my mental wellbeing.. please do something? People like them make me wish I wasn’t me anymorepic.twitter.com/jVdtpWA4uq

Do you have any other screenshots? That’s totally unacceptable! I’m upset that our uni employs anyone who calls themselves ‘gender critical’ at all + would be happy to help signpost you to people to complain to/help you put theough a complaint if you want.

Steph will be better connected than me so it might be better following up with her, I’d be happy to help you write a more formal complaint/word it if that’s any use though.

They should take it seriously if you do complain though - a staff singling a student out like this is clearly not ok. They can be a bit slow dealing w/ something like this but in general they have indicated a willingness to work with us to be more trans-inclusive

So you believe that anybody should be able to get an academic sacked for exercising academic freedom?

No. I just don’t believe that somebody who takes to social media to make personal attacks on students should be allowed the authority to teach them. Its an abuse of power.

So your comment about being upset about anyone who is gender critical being employed at university is irrelevant? 🤔 Clearly not. There is no abuse of power here whatsoever. So why are you getting involved?

I can be upset by something without necessarily disagreeing with it. I don’t think the university should fire everyone with problematic views at all. What I do think is that its wrong to target one individual/use one person as a example of a point you want to make. 1/

In this instance, Dr Moody has taken something said by a student and tried to make an example out of her by mocking her/making a joke at her expense. That is where the abuse of power is. This is an academic who has taken it upon herself to criticise someone’s personal life.

No, that is not an abuse of power. I think you need to reflect on what an abuse of power is. Most sensible people see the comment for what it is - pointing out the ridiculous. All this game-playing is getting old quickly.

I don’t and have never understood this. Why is it abuse to call someone who uses feminist rhetoric to justify excluding trans people from feminist spaces a ‘trans exclusionary radical feminist (TERF)’? I feel like our TERF is synonymous with your ‘gender critical’.

It's abusive because women aren't using "feminist rhetoric" to exclude anyone - women are raising valid concerns that will directly impact us. Calling us "terfs" is simply an attempt to dismiss our concerns without engaging with our points & not have to actually hear us.

I disagree with you, but also I am trying to listen and I have been engaging. I just don’t think you’ve answered my question at all here: why is this ‘abusive’? What abuse is being done by labelling your point of view as we see it, even if you disagree. How is that ‘abuse’?

I’m asking this as someone who has experience r*pe and gaslighting at the hands of a former partner. As someone who was tormented by teachers for my sexual orientation at school. Someone who has been groped in a club, catcalled on a train +called a f*ggot for holding a boy’s hand
