My attitude about "death of the author" is applicable to video games. One need not consider FO76 as part of their accepted personal canon. Heck, when it comes to franchises, "canon" is at the whim of whoever is writing next. Best to just not regard it as a rigid thing.

Heck, possibly by descendants from Vault 76. All sorts of things could have been embellished. The fact that popular elements that shouldn't be there have been included could be seen as "well, we've got to put this in the story, haven't we?"

I know it won't work for everyone, but accepting there is an unreliable narrator at play when things conflict with preferred canon can be a fair bit more relaxing than throwing metaphorical Molotovs as the writers.
