Seemed like the whole point of labeling these events “domestic terrorism” was to highlight the need to handle them as terrorism. Not to rebrand them as a type of terrorism light, which is an effect it appears to have.

When using “domestic” to mean an “American” inflicted terrorism on “their” “own” “America”, isn’t there something absurdly problematic there? It reinforces their agency and rights. It speaks to where they should end up in the geography of the justice system.

In post-9/11 America it is starkly Islamophobic. Terrorism is terrorism, regardless of immigration status or colonial subject. “Domestic” in the American vocabulary is a pillar of white supremacy and arbitrary entitlements. It’s completely vulgar and also anti-native
