Sports illustrated fired him for challenging their pay cuts during the pandemic.
He ran to unseat FIFA’s president.
He challenged human rights abuses in Qatar.
RIP Grant Wahl, who’s career was as much about great reporting as it was about speaking truth to abusive power.

Bipartisan bill on immigration -- that includes extension of Title 42, legalization of DACA recipients, and more funding for border security -- is in the works.
Can a lame-duck Congress make a deal?

I’m in Beijing at the scene of the protest. Mostly young people. They’re chanting no to Covid tests and yes to freedom. Large police presence. Also people hold white papers like in Shanghai - symbolic protest against censorship. Lots of honking cars in solidarity

“Sometimes, I feel very unlucky to be Nepali.”
Nepal sent more workers to Qatar than almost any nation, their people built the World Cup. More than 2,000 returned in coffins. I went to Nepal to see just how unfettered ambition collides with dire poverty

It’s easier to talk about what China’s social credit system isn’t than what it is. But I decided to take a stab, since China drafted a new law on Nov 14 that also tried (and maybe failed) to explain what the system is.

We lost 151 people a few hours ago in Seoul. Over 80 were injured. Thousands have been reported missing, Most of those killed or injured were under thirty years old. An estimated 100,000 people were celebrating Halloween in Itaewon. I cannot imagine the heartbreak and despair.

It's hard to overstate how much of a punchline the Phillies have been in the past decade. So many blown leads. Approximately 1 billion bad losses to the Marlins. The worst bullpen in history.
Now? The World Series 🎉🎉🎉

Wow. And three days before Party Congress in Beijing kicks off. A sight which would have merited *maybe* a second glance in New York or Berlin but in China is big news because of how tightly political expression is controlled.

In a meeting that lasted less than 15 minutes this afternoon, @Gannett announced mandatory furloughs at the holidays, buyouts, freezing our 401(k) match and stopping hiring. No details. Very little info on timeline.
I think most of us are either speechless or swearing rn.

There’s a universe in which Gov. Chris Sununu would be slogging it out on the campaign trail in tough Senate race.
Instead, he hiked a *literal* trail with me last month, talking all things Trump, election deniers, and 2024.
