Go to gathering hub. Top floor of elevators. Find lady that looks like Jessica Chobot. Make private squad(a clan basically) Inv your wife and friends. Any time you and your wife get on the game. After you select your save, click squad session.
I love how MH:W is the "accessible" Monster Hunter game and there are still 14 menus to get into a co-op game and none of them work.

Now post a job like usual. She will need to select join a job. You can only play "assigned" quest together if you both have seen thr cutscenes. Stick to optional, investigations, arena, and event quests if you want to avoid that.

It's so busted. I was playing with 2 friends and we were on the same quest. We needed to each start the quest solo, watch the cutscene, quit out and then join each other.

SOS flare is open matchmaking. Join quest is lobby specific. If you are the only ones in the lobby then always use join and ignore/don't use SOS. Also top fourth floor is where you can see each other outside quests. It's upstairs from the cantina.

Invite her to the same online session -> post your quest -> she goes to the quest board and joins

I'll be honest, as a vet of the series... watching all these new players that thought MH:W was the one run headfirst into the insane cliff of accessibility that still exists in the series is kind of hilarious. We've lived with this for years! It is a shame though, expected more.
