Today I was denied a renewal of my US Passport and told I would need to get a judge to unseal child welfare records from Foster care in order to "prove" my US Citizenship. Despite having had all "Female" ID since 1999, they are now demanding "Proof of Transition" for the 1st time

Other important notes: 1. I have already showed them a birth certificate with my current legal name (which it has been since 1999) and my legal gender as "Female". They claim this is not the "original" because I had previous names. The "original" documents no longer exist.

It is also worth noting: 1. I am a survivor of stalking with felony charges still pending - State Dept. has seen this. 2. I am actively fleeing threats of violence, 3. I have sought official US government protection for #2 and was told to buy a gun and hire private security.

My job is dangerous enough. Being trapped in a country where other people who want to do harm to me for my work as a human rights defender can operately freely and unhindered by State Actors is reason to seek Assylum in another country. I refuse to live in terror and fear.

Holland could be a good option. I am 100 % sure on the legal stuff surrounding a person seeking asylum from the US. But I am pretty confident we are not hostile to trans people.

The barrier to an asylum claim is quite high if you are coming from a country with any form of a legal system, police, or functioning government. It isn't impossible to prove and I believe I have compelling evidence. Most countries are however afraid to piss off the USA.

With a batterer in the white house, everyone is afraid. I survived domestic violence, I've seen how on an interpersonal and institutional level men use fear of reprisal, intimidation, and violence to cow others into submission. At some point other countries will have to stand up.

I am ashamed that my country has put you in this position. The majority of us do not support Trump or his horrendous policies. I sincerely hope you are able to leave & return to safety. As a lesbian w/partner of 27+ years I wonder if we will be next. Best of luck to you!

I’m not even sure who or what can apply enough pressure to the State Department to get me a passport. I plan on leaving, but if I leave without a passport I will be committing a crime. :-/

Unless you acquire an enhanced WA state driver’s license and drive, walk, or go by boat over the border to Canada or Mexico. You do not need a passport to travel to either country except by air.

Sweden is my final destination. Canada is my human rights pit stop. You DO need a passport to travel to Canada since 2014 actually. An enchanced license gets me to Canada, but it doesn't get me to the EU. And you are missing the big picture, I am entitled to a passport. Period.

Thank you! I’ve lived and worked in Sweden (Helsingborg, Sollentuna, Södermalm) on an off since 2006. I never thought I’d get “stuck” in the USA and be unable to leave. I’ll be really glad to be home.
