I love the community that has formed around Playdate. My mind is completely blown by the great job and sheer amount of work put into these game awards! Thank you
Did you catch last Thursday's big gaming awards show? That's right, the 2022 Playdate Community Awards! They were wonderful. Awards! Games!
You should really watch the whole thing: https://youtube.com/watch?v=TW2SHhYw0Vo… Here's a big thread of some of the highlights. Enjoy.
Something very special is happening next Thursday: the very first Playdate Community Awards show!!
It's an independent celebration of great Playdate things. We're so excited about it, we made this little video.
Join the party! Thu, Dec 8th, 3PM PST at: http://twitch.tv/tinyyellowmachine…
Portland folks! Next weekend (Oct 21-22) I’ll be exhibiting more than 100 vintage calculators from my collection! (All from 1968-1983.) If you’re in the area, are interested in design and vintage tech, DM me — I still have spots left for people to come and check it out.
Not to play favorites, but this week some of my favorite Playdate games are out: b360 and Ratcheteer. Both have soundtracks out on Bandcamp! First, there's b360, a game 40 years in the making…
How did we end up with two very good weird movies with strangely long titles and kaleidoscope posters at the same time? Is this a Volcano/Dante’s Peak situation?
First PhotoBooth, now Freeform! Apple has liked two of my app names so much they’ve taken them for themselves (my Freeform app has sadly not been for a sale for a long while now 😢) https://stuntsoftware.com/freeform/#WWDC22
You know, you work on a thing for years, and sometimes you wonder if it was all worth it. And then sometimes, if you’re really lucky, you get to see clearly and without a doubt that it absolutely was.
And then… then, my friends… there’s “A Joke That’s Worth $0.99”.
There’s nothing we can add to this very important video. Which you absolutely must watch now with sound on.

Oh! A new Playdate Update video is here!
It recaps the great developer things we've released this year, like Pulp and the Playdate SDK. Please enjoy it. https://youtu.be/BmrtkBmFSn4
There's one extra important bit in the update. Playdates in Group One will begin shipping…
…today.
In other news, after nearly 10 years at Panic, we recently bid farewell to our testing expert, Ashur. We miss him so much already.
But, this means we now have a rare job opening on the Playdate team for a Senior QA / Release Engineer.
Know anyone? https://panicinc.applytojob.com/apply/aVyJwpWz01/Senior-QARelease-Engineer-Playdate-OS-And-SDK…
🌌 We'll make a more formal announcement later, but Nova 9 is out! https://nova.app
It adds our biggest new feature since launch, Debugging. It was… a _lot_ of work, and it lays even more foundation for us to continue iterating and improving in future releases.
Hi! As you know, last month we released Pulp, our easy-to-use Playdate game making tool.
And today, as promised… it's time for even more developer news.
The full Playdate Software Development Kit is now available for free to all at https://play.date/dev/ !!
A thread!
Playdate Pulp is now available in public beta!! Pulp is a super fun (and free!) game making tool for Playdate. With a few clicks, anyone can turn a game idea into Playdate reality. https://play.date/pulp
A "Python web services engineer with Django experience" sounds very made up to me, but regardless Panic is the best company I've ever worked for by an impossible margin so if that's somehow you: check it out
Job alert! With our web services growing ever more critical and complex, we need some help. Are you a Python web services engineer with Django experience? Consider working with us here at Panic. https://panicinc.applytojob.com/apply/pmIDUQuVpW/Python-Web-Services-Engineer-With-Django-Experience…
I cry a little tear of joy every time I adjust the volume or brightness on my new M1 MacBook Pro. It's just, right there. No more moving non-tactile pictures of buttons. I appreciated the touch bar experiment, I am very glad to be back in button town.
2012: Steven Frank creates the very serious and important "Cloud-To-Butt" browser extension that replaces the words "the cloud" with "my butt" on all web pages. (https://github.com/panicsteve/cloud-to-butt…) Some older versions and forks even affect any text written in <input>s.
2021:
Yale Ph.D student Matt Amodio’s 38-game winning streak on Jeopardy! has come to a close after coming in third tonight.
He leaves the show with $1,518,601 in earnings, the third-highest in the show’s history for non-tournament play. https://ctpost.com/entertainment/article/Yale-s-Matt-Amodio-ends-Jeopardy-win-16525134.php…
I know some Winnipeg businesses are worried about losing money as a result of the new vaccine requirements, but I personally am FAR more likely to patronize your establishment knowing there will only be sane, vaccinated people there
macOS tip: head on over to ~/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary to see a list of words you’ve accidentally added to the dictionary and have probably been spelling wrong for years!
And now, a little treat for your weekend: a double-length episode of the Panic Podcast. Here's the Story of Playdate. https://podcast.panic.com/#episode006
Playdate pre-orders are now open! I think our little team at Panic has created something pretty neat, very unique, and remarkably unlikely. I hope it brings some joy into the world and I can’t wait to see what people create! :)
