I’m surprised the iPhone X isn’t faster since it has 120hz touch detection. Maybe there’s an app faster than Safari?

Yeah, this also surprised me since the iPhone X feels quicker to me. Not sure if that's because the feeling is an illusion, if the measurement isn't precise enough to capture the difference, or if I'd need a different measurement.
-
I'd love to do a set of benchmarks that captures many/most aspects of the subjective feeling of responsiveness but that's >= a year of work. I don't know of anyone other than Apple funding that kind of work and if I did it for Apple I'd never be able to tell anyone the results

Once it got past 100ms, that is when it started to feel sluggish.https://www.nngroup.com/articles/response-times-3-important-limits/ …
-
This is off by at least a factor of 3.
-
Fixed latency doesn’t feel as sluggish as jittery (highly variable) latency. We deal with 5-15 ms with analog audio often. But yeah you can feel 100ms easy.
-
Anyone remember Quake 2's awful 10 Hz input sampling/ticrate? I think they later fixed it but uhg...gross.

I’d be interested in the Amiga, BeBox, and C64.

Atari ST, Newton, Sinclair, Gameboy (Linux)

The Symbolics 3620 (already present in the table) is a lisp machine.

@danluu If you happen to have access to a Nintendo Switch, I would love to see any measurement you can take for the touchscreen. When entering in my name or password on initial setup, the touchscreen felt incredibly fast. -
Game consoles often sound a very brief click upon each keystroke. It would be interesting to see if you can influence user perception of latency by varying the duration of these sounds.

One thing about the Apple //e is the FIRST key worked great but typing two keys too quickly resulted in a random input, so it’s not a truly fair comparison.
-
Only if your //e keyboard encoder was broken. The hardware had 2 key rollover, and from many years of experience, it worked just fine. Three keys could and often would produce garbage.
-
//e 2 key rollover worked just as well as most PC keyboards, and better than some of the low quality ones.

I had this sinking feeling that Google Chrome on my laptop had super high scroll latency. PresentMon confirmed my suspicion.pic.twitter.com/olFqZorhlp

It does. Try Firefox Quantum for comparison. I'd switch if I could.
