They start measuring from internal switch activation and I start when the key moves, so that could explain the 10ms difference.

Also, does anyone in the NYC area have an "interesting" keyboard I can borrow to test?

So far, I've tested a couple gaming keyboards and a bunch of other "normal" keyboards. The gaming keyboards haven't been faster.

That latency wouldn't surprise us a whole lot. You ~need at least 5ms for debounce. With housekeeping & overhead, it's easy to get to 20ms.

There's a lot one can do to get well below 20ms, but, in our opinion, not a ton of utility in it for _most_ applications.

If you do play with a Model 01, we have some keys wired to exposed headers inside the enclosure, which should make measurement easier.

Let me send you an email when I have something written up! I would love to hear about why I'm wrong about latency mattering :-).

Oh, to be clear, we don't think you're _wrong_. Just that below a threshold it's not the most important consideration for many situations.

I agree that it's sometimes (often?) not important, but IMO it matters more often than people think, for reasons too long for twitter

And we should say that decreasing our key event latency is a goal, but not our primary design goal for the 'default' firmware.
