I wish twitter suggested "who to mute" instead of suggesting "who to follow"

I didn't start liking twitter until I had a muted:following ratio of ~2:1. Now that it's 6:1 twitter is almost great.

I've been on a major unfollow spree: trying to reduce it to people I've met in person or had a real interaction with. Still too much.

I still read every tweet from every person I follow, so when I go winnowing it tends to be 'people who post too much'.

Except there's a follower threshold above which the gods of machine learning decide what you're allowed to read :(

I'm OK with my follow-ers, it's the follow-ings I'm eliminating. If my one unfollow causes someone to drop below the threshold, whelp.

Oh I meant followees. Twitter doesn't let me read all people I follow

I have unfollowed and don't follow a lot of people I know (online and in irl), including people that I like a lot!

I try to get two specific things out of my twitter, so I unfollow people who have a low SNR wrt to those things. It's nothing personal.

Once I started seeing it that way, I unfollowed the majority of the people I followed on twitter and my experience got a lot better. YMMV.
