I didn't know that MMX also introduced the global predictor?
It's possible that it used elsewhere sooner & could be wrong. Intel is quite cagey what they do, so that's based on someone else's guesswork

I was surprised at the number of predictors with local branch history that shipped. They've fallen out of favor hard since the late 90s.
