But mainframes never died. They are still half of IBM's profits and a third of revenue. Maybe IBM will die too, but I doubt mainframes will.
I don't think anyone here is claiming that mainframes are dead or will die. But they've been in slow decline for most of my life.
Not saying this won't happen. I was just describing today's situation. Number of PCs in use plateaued and there's a rise of mobile.
