@danluu I wanted to mention,I have lots of experience using hardware terminals in offline mode and editors in MS-DOS—reliably tiny latency.
Yeah, DOS is great for latency! I'd be curious to see word perfect 5.1 on a 486 vs. MS Word on a kaby lake.

Sure, but also things much simpler than WP. I'm pretty sure lots of these were down in the submillisecond range even on a 286 (+refresh)
