Declining labor force participation !== job loss. Many men are "opting out" of the work force despite opportunitieshttp://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2016/09/labor-force-participation-video-games.html …

If I'm reading https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7m8wQD_ckP4VmZPOXpza3h4X0E/preview … correctly, the majority of the increase in video game time is offset by a decrease in TV time.

That's not to say there's no effect, but it seems to be more nuanced than http://review.chicagobooth.edu/economics/2016/article/video-killed-radio-star … makes it sound.

1/ Yes that's probably true. The point isn't so much that men are playing more video games, but that extracting just that decline in labor

2/ force participation (and excluding the data for women, which shows the opposite trend!) is pretty misleading.

Yeah, agree that there are mutiple factors. I just think it's too simplistic to say that there definitely is not a decline due to tech

But of course my tweet is also too simplistic because there's only room for a few characters :-(

Totally agree! It is at least a plausible factor in the decline of work force participation, and could def make a case for a stronger claim
