My YouTube JavaScript channel outperforms my blog, even though content is identical. Blog discovery hasn't really happened for me.
I can see youtube/twitch/etc., but writing on FB or G+ seems like a good way to make sure value doesn't accrue to you.

Agreed. FB and G+ are bad for tech content. As RSS feeds disappear, I've moved my blogs to Medium, which helps.
