@danluu If a person wants to get started learning asm in the general sense, is x86 a good default, and can you recommend a starting point?
IMO, x86 is fine. Unfortunately, the resource I used (the Intel manual) sucks as a tutorial.

thanks that looks like a good starting point! The only assembly I've 'used' was the toy asm from nand2tetris... good for learns but
