Had the same exp looking for used cars in the pre-CarMax era. CarMax wiped the floor with scummy dealerships. Why'd it take so long though?
Spent all day looking at NYC-area apartments; talked to exactly 1 person who didn't blatantly lie to us. What's the point of this strategy?

also StreetEasy and nybits make it easy to do a lot of diligence in advance (easier if you know which n’hood you want)

Lies brokers told me: It's a 2nd-floor walkup (actually 5th); it's got a dishwasher (nope); it's 1000 sq ft (more like 650).
