User studies on old Google, where ads were more different from real results, found that many users confused ads with real results.
Since then, Google has made ads look more like search results. That's been great for revenue&profit. Not so great for most users, though.

I've tried switching my default to DDG but I find that the search relevance isn't as good and I end up using !g after a while
do you use ad blockers? 1blocker on iPhone seems to do a good job.
I use ublock origin on desktop and have tried brave on mobile. Neither blocks these google ads by default for some reason.
