IMO "backend" would be a fine catch-all term, but the survey qualifies "backend" with "web", and I'm clueless/hopeless as a web dev
Wait, I've never heard backend used to mean anything other than (web) server stuff. Backend implies frontend implies two machines.
If nothing else your text calls "embedded" backend, and the two seem like polar opposites to me.
