I ended up at MS because a well-known engineer gave me a compelling (false) pitch. The 2 teams he hired for had ~50% attrition after ~1yr.

I'm not picking on MS here! Startups do this too and it's much worse since people who leave often can't afford to exercise their options...

... they also fire people (relatively often) when it's a bad fit instead of letting them transfer; that's not talked about nearly enough.
