There are definitely still bad comments, but fewer and often buried. Compare to reddit/slashdot where the top comments are usually bad.

The technical content of comments is still embarrassing. The Economist style "Dear sir" superficial civility doesn't mean much.

I find 1-2 good technical comments a week, which compares well to the 1-2 per year on r/programming and slashdot.
