One problem here is that we're all assholes to some degree (same with talented), making it harder to define the firing threshold

agreed, but I can recall more than one case where every IC agreed, but management was in love with the jerk's potential.

brilliant jerks have been at least one of the causes in leaving *everywhere I've left*. It's even been the dominating/primary reason
