for PhDs, I hear about offers up to $400k. These numbers are absurd compared to, say, five years ago.

yes, but if it's us you'll need a good competing offer and only some orgs will match a really generous competing offer.

Bay Area living costs are skewing it. $250 is realistically senior-level. No-experience will not grant you that much.

Nope. I made that much as a not particularly senior engineer in a town in the midwest, as did most of the office I was in.
