Hmm, when it comes to validating NaCl's sandboxing, I kinda think whitelisting does make sense. OTOH obviously this check
Waaay back when I had a Cyrix CPU, they had a tool that made the CPU report "GenuineIntel" for apps that check.
I have a vague memory of lawsuits over reporting "GenuineIntel" when not being genuine Intel.

Centaur has that tool. Many games and benchmarks get a little faster with AMD CPUID and a lot faster with Intel CPUID
Yep, especially if there's any ICC-compiled code in there since their CPU dispatch gives you fallback on non-Intel.
transmeta changed their CPUID to start with Genuine because many libraries only check the first half of the string o.O
