Just saw CMU professor cite a bogus paper on HN to defend against vaporware claims. I was worried about students but this also hurts profs.

this is a problem for grad students in many fields. Good advisors put papers in context. Bad ones lead them astray.

yeah, you often have to thoroughly read the paper to find out if some of its smarts is just meticilously handcoded.
