Q for OS instructors: Why do we lecture on inverted page tables? Is there some system I am unaware of that actually uses this idea?

@danluu certainly the students will not have used those, and I didn't know they used inverted page tables.
@johnregehr Just ran across http://yarchive.net/comp/linux/page_tables.html …, which I found interesting. It explains why linux uses page tables for all architectures.
