then it may literally _not work_ on lower-end phones because of weird discontinuities in performance, screen size, browser version, whatever reminds me of how Dan Luu found that some sites would literally just not load on a bad enough connection (from https://danluu.com/web-bloat/ )pic.twitter.com/fB24Ih7w4D
One thing I've heard from talking to mobile performance folks is that, if you buy a cheap phone that's being sold in the developing world (generally not available in the U.S., even on ebay), most apps will take minutes to load and then crash if you use them like you'd expect to.
If the APIs were open, I'd make faster versions of simple apps that I use regularly (even on my iPhone 8, which is faster than any Android phone money can buy, most apps are still slower than I'd like), but this is usually banned, hence workarounds likehttps://github.com/zedeus/nitter/
I can see why this happens (revenue from people who can't afford a modern phone is relatively small, most companies don't want to spend effort on that, nor do they want to open up their APIs and potentially lose revenue from affluent users), but I'm not a fan.
android go seems like an attempt to address this?
