In IIHS data, there appears to be an order of magnitude difference in deaths per mile between the best and the worst models from the same model year, even excluding cars where you expect drivers to cause more deaths (e.g, corvettes, STIs). This is considered to be totally fine.

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for a significant fraction of the population. We just accept that people who buy a bad model will die at elevated rates. For people >= 25, "Accidental Poisoning", another "shit happens" category, beats car accidents!pic.twitter.com/29wQtkGfzk
