We were in the middle of the front page of HN and /r/programming for roughly the same amount of time last week. HN sent 3,801 hits; Reddit sent... 216, according to Google Analytics. Do they somehow block the referer header or something? I don't believe adblock is that prevelant.

I don't think it's just referrer info (as indicated by multiple other comments) since I've also looked at this when there's only one "major" source of traffic to my site at once, so I can attribute most of the traffic to one source regardless of referrer.

Intuitively, I think the very high drop-off from reddit below #1 makes sense. Here's what's above the fold for me when I visit reddit vs. HN: 0.9 links vs. 18.5 links.pic.twitter.com/JFJ2qg9kcv
