Google Webmaster Tools scored my site as "moderate" speed for every single URL, including my two packet* front page, https://danluu.com/  I wonder what you needed for a "fast" page, a single packet site? *total payload is larger, but the rest is non-blocking/async.pic.twitter.com/GwcLvibQDK

If you're really wondering, I think those numbers are based on data that Google collects from real-world users on Chromepic.twitter.com/CThupSmZGW

I'm not saying the numbers are wrong, but if my site was "moderate", what sites were "fast"? I could see a 1-2 packet site that has a higher CDN hit rate being faster as well as sites that are pushed all the way to the edge, but those seem to be slower because they're heavier.

I think they are measuring 90th percentile "First Contentful Paint" which means (almost) anything drawn to the screen. So "fast" pages are ones which consistently draw *something* faster than 1s, even if other content is still loading. https://www.thinkwithgoogle.com/feature/testmysite/faq/ …

What's a site puts up a faster number than my site? I'm not saying that there aren't any, there probably are, but the ones I tried that I thought might be faster are listed as having slower 75%-ile FCP and 95%-ile FID (which are what the site shows me) https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdanluu.com …

Or are you saying that the GWT thing is 90%-ile even though PSI is 75%-ile?

According to the PSI page your site is indeed "fast." Maybe GWT is using old data?pic.twitter.com/xGRiiZWeo6

They do use 75th different percentile to reach 0.6s but still they say 92% of loads are <1s so 90th percentile should also be <1s
