Google Webmaster Tools scored my site as "moderate" speed for every single URL, including my two packet* front page, https://danluu.com/  I wonder what you needed for a "fast" page, a single packet site? *total payload is larger, but the rest is non-blocking/async.pic.twitter.com/GwcLvibQDK

      Maybe a regional CDN?

I wonder if this might be it? Dan I really admire your dedication to a small site, but from Sydney your home page has noticeable latency loading. I wouldn’t call it amazingly fast or anything; certainly AMP abominations feel way faster. Where’s it hosted?

Okay I will say that it loads absolutely instantaneously the second time. So props for getting caching right at least! That *does* qualify as feeling amazingly fast.

I'm using CF. Cache misses see significant latency, but I don't think my hit rate is super low for a non-BigCo website? Fig below has inflated miss rate because I use prefetch and CF won't cache prefetches unless you're on a $$$ plan. Real miss rate maybe 1/3 of that, I think?pic.twitter.com/8TdGKpADrX

Forgive me, because I’ve never engineered outside of Google: we’re talking about cache misses at the CDN here? I.e. you expect hits in something located near me in Sydney? I must have just gotten unlucky then; that’s a pretty great setup.

It’s also possible I missed in some DNS cache and went through a terrible ISP resolver or something. Computers.

I think hit rate varies by location, CF seems to expire pages pretty quickly (based on how long it takes to update when I push an update, it's a few minutes), if not many people are loading the page in Australia, misses might be normal there.

I've through about spinning up VMs or using lambdas to try to keep the cache hot, but CF has maybe 150-200 POPs, I think it would be non-trivial to do that effectively. Might be easier to just serve my page out of VMs from all over the world instead?
