When I was learning math I thought of it in more constructivist terms. We make N by counting, Q by dividing and R through filling the “gaps”* b/w Q. Transc are in the gaps but we don’t have a good** way to describe them. See foot notes...
Gaps* - of course there aren’t really gaps like holes as rational numbers are dense and every gap has a rational number inside.
