Does anyone else feel that they basically lucked into a high paying career because their interests randomly aligned with scarcity and a rapidly growing field, and that it's nowhere near as hard, or as societally valuable as what teachers, medical professionals and care-givers do?

I was broke. I couldn't make money investing with cash. I invested my time. A lot of us ex-finance did that. I'm as surprised as anyone else that tech comp has gone up so much, but it was clearly the most in-demand skillset. Software has been "eating the world" for years.

Andreesen published "Why software is eating the world" in 2011. Bootcamp grads right now don't even need to predict it. They're getting in later, so the road is harder, but it's 100% hard work for them.
