yeah there's a base of serious expertise there, it just doesn't come out that often

But basically every other aspect of Twitter's design that I can think of makes it bad for high SNR discussion. Is this really the best thing going outside of small email threads with 5-6 people? That seems implausible.

Semi-public slack or discord chats seem to be popular in certain fields. Never joined any tho.

Twitter seems less anonymous: more people seem to have their profile tied to their RL identities than on HN or other places (why?). So maybe people are more circumspect about posting BS on tech topics? Of course this assumes people know they are wrong in the first place.
