Are there any good survey papers on the effect of type systems on maintainability? I found this primary research paper comparing Java and Groovy on a task, but an overview of the field would be great. https://pleiad.cl/papers/2012/kleinschmagerAl-icpc2012.pdf …

This paper on assessing how many Javascript bugs (in public GitHub repos with issue trackers) could have been prevented with a modicum of type annotations is one of the best in terms of methodology, analysis, etc: http://earlbarr.com/publications/typestudy.pdf …

@danluu, I'd love to hear your opinion on this one. It came out after your survey, and I think it is the best work in the area to date. Reasonable and well-defined experiment, plausible results, no over-stating of conclusions, overall just very careful and solid work.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
I've been meaning to collect "recent" studies, read them, and update the post, just haven't had much time to blog stuff lately!
