Anyone - particularly devs - who think highly of Google are fucking high. It's a terrible company pairing shoddy engineering with oversold machine learning all in the name of serving ads and that is the ONLY purpose the company has. Period. Fuck Google.
And as a footnote, Android is poorly designed and implemented garbage too, and they're 8 versions into trying to build that piece of shit into something that kind of works. While Apple and iOS have no shortage of problems, they're fundamentally a competent platform.

reasonable doubt as to how much choice you have in the websites you can visit? windows being on every machine meant a lot of influence, and little choice, the web browser bundling & eu stuff was based on that framing
Anti-Google sentiments are becoming more common but wide-spride cultural absolutes like that take a while to shift.
I think Google was pretty careful with PR messages and overall attitude -- like, this message "don't you see how open and friendly we are?", while opening some unrelated stuff and keeping core part tightly closed. it could be that google services are free and MS you buy yourself
